Dothan city officials have spoken out about the personnel board's decision to investigate the resignation of a former Dothan police captain.
Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell says he hopes the investigation will clear up any final questions the public has regarding the Smith matter. But the city's police chief wants to clear up a few things first.
The investigation stems from a request by the Citizens' Supervisory Committee asking the board to take formal action.
Smith, a 19-year veteran of the Dothan Police Department, resigned after being accused of writing letters of insubordination about the police chief and his colleagues.
But, at the focus of the investigation is whether Chief John White violated any personnel rules or regulations during an internal investigation of Smith's alleged misconduct.
The personnel board has 60 days to release a report about the investigation.
