Officials say since the Federal Drug Elimination Program began more than a decade ago. Service calls in Dothan’s public housing have dropped from a high of 3,500 calls to less than 400 each year.
But, now that Congress has decided to cut funding, the city's public housing authority is using a portion of another federal grant to keep the patrols.
However, only 20-percent of the money, or about $175,000 can be used to pay officers salaries and benefits which amounts to $338,000 a year.
