Police departments in two Houston County towns are getting some new wheels courtesy of Governor Bob Riley.
The governor has awarded $15,000 grants to the cities of Ashford and Gordon for new patrol cars. Both communities are currently using older, high-mileage vehicles that are less reliable.
Ashford Police Chief Rhone Lawler says some of his cars already have more that 130,000 miles on them.
City officials in Ashford and Gordon have agreed to provide matching funds to purchase the new police cruisers.
The money for the grants comes from the US Department of Justice.
