It all started last year in May. Melanie Higdon and her husband took in 28 abused horses. Little did they know it would turn into something they only thought about.

Roger Higdon says, "Since that time we have grown into about 50 or 60 horses."

Twenty-eight turned into more than 125 horses the Higdon's have rescued and found homes for, rescuing them anywhere from Georgia to Daytona, Florida. What began as an open heart turned into a non-profit organization? But, it all comes with a cost.

Melanie Higdon says, "We've done a lot of fundraising efforts and the money just isn't there and we understand because people are losing their homes, they're losing their jobs and you know donations are one of the last things that they can take into consideration with their budget.

It costs $100,000 each year just to continue operating this horse farm and taking more horses in, naming donations a valuable part in continuing this great organization.

Melanie Higdon says, "In any way that people can help is wonderful because whether it's by money or supporting us through recognition of our efforts or people coming out and donating their time or service to help us out all of those things help us keep going."

Kokoma here is one of many the Higdons have seen given up by their owners, simply because they couldn't afford to keep her.

Melanie Higdon says, "Sometimes it's tough because we have to turn people away but we try to give them option."

The Higdons say as long as they can afford it, they'll continue to help those that can't help themselves.

Higdon says, "We love it, it's wonderful. I think it's my fate so you just follow your heart and this is where my heart is."
