Now that the decision has been made on the former Carver High School property, the Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity officials hopes to start the process of building its first subdivision in the area.
Habitat director Tami Page says while city officials have several items to address, such as rezoning, she says the organization will begin accepting applications for those interested in living on the Lake Street site.
While construction of the 16-house subdivision won't take place until next year, Page says they want input from Carver High School alumni.
Page says the Habitat subdivision will also house a park honoring George Washington Carver with a place set aside for Carver memorabilia.
