Several communities around the Wiregrass have warning sirens, but not Dothan or Houston County.
Some concerned citizens are hoping sirens like the one in downtown Abbeville will soon dot the Circle City's skyline and the rest of the county.
Representatives from groups including the Red Cross, EMA and Pilcher Ambulance service have been talking about the idea since December.
After doing research, they estimate the county needs somewhere around 27 sirens to adequately cover the area. They say that they've gotten one estimate that places the cost at around $260,000.
The group is in the process of trying to rally community support and they plan to talk with lawmakers and local leaders about making the idea reality as soon as possible.
