Hit and Run Fatality

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies are still searching for the driver of a white pickup truck.

The driver reportedly ran the truck onto a sidewalk along U.S. Highway 98 and killed a teen-age tourist.

Fifteen-year-old Michelle Meadors of Louisville, Kentucky, died Sunday at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Investigators said she was vacationing in Destin with two friends.

She was hit around 8 p.m. Saturday by the truck, which was towing a small boat or personal watercraft.

One of her friends was treated for a leg injury. The other wasn't hurt. A witness said the driver was going up to 40 miles per hour and never hit the brakes.

Deputies said they're looking for an older truck with an extended cab. If you have any information about the white pickup truck or its driver, call the Okaloosa County Sheriff's office at 850-651-7400.
