City Commission Meeting

At yesterday's Dothan City Commission Meeting, Dothan Police Chief John White asked to address city commissioners concerning allegations that he has "cloned" city pagers.

With the police chief already being investigated by the city's personnel board, Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell asked the commission not to consider the chief's request.

Chief White was silently taking notes during the meeting when City Commissioner Pat Thomas asked the commission to allow the police chief to speak during the meeting over accusations concerning the city's paging system.

That’s when Mayor Sowell spoke up and said it would be inappropriate for the commission to discuss the allegations either in public or behind closed doors with a pending investigation.

As a result, the issue was dropped and the chief was not allowed to speak. Dothan’s mayor says it was not the right time to discuss the matter.

In published reports, Chief White has denied the allegations although he has declined to discuss the situation with News 4 on camera.
