Sea Turtles

A batch of newly hatched sea turtles was taken into the wild. It's a huge milestone for a species of turtle that's nearly extinct.

Volunteers with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and dozens of onlookers spent their morning gathered around to witness a tiny piece of history. For just the third time in over 20 years, a nest of Kemp Ridley's Sea Turtles hatched. It’s a rare and important find for this endangered species.

Two months ago, mother turtles laid their eggs and now the eggs have hatched -- 73 turtles were released onto the beach, and they swam off into the Gulf of Mexico.
