The month long Geneva County Jail controversy appears to have now been settled.
The county commission voted three-to-one to spend $17,000 with a Hartford firm to remove mold from inside the walls of the jail. The commission also passed a motion to spend $43,000 on a new airflow system for the jail.
The mold has been blamed for a series of health related problems experienced by both staff and inmates.
County Commissioner Larry Everett says he feels the expenditures are a waste of taxpayer money. But, Sheriff Greg Ward says the work has to be done.
Once the work begins on the jail, the inmates will be temporarily transferred to facilities in both Coffee and Covington counties.
