Governor Riley has picked Birmingham executive Tom Surtees to become the state's top tax man. Surtees has been a vice president for the Citation Corporation in Birmingham.
Riley says Surtees will begin work as state revenue commissioner on March 15th. He replaces Dwight Carlisle, who stepped down earlier this month when he became a trustee of Auburn University.
Surtees is a former president of the Jefferson County Board of Education.
