No Nap Time For Kindergarteners
Starting in late March, kindergarteners in Houston County schools will be skipping naptime.
Students will be putting away their mats for good at the beginning of the last nine weeks of school and the five and six year olds will be spending an extra hour a day hitting the books instead.
It’s a change that schools in Montgomery and some other parts of the state have already made and Houston County school officials say it will help prepare the students for first grade where there is no naptime.
Teachers predict some students will adapt to the change quickly while others will still need a little time to rest.
Houston county kindergarten teachers will be meeting Thursday to come up with the curriculum for the last nine-weeks of school. They’ll decide at that time how exactly to use the extra hour of instruction.
