Officer Faces Job Suspension

A Bonifay police officer is fighting to keep his job.

By a five-to-one vote, the Bonifay City Police Department has placed Officer Steven Lee on indefinite, unpaid suspension.

He has been under suspension with pay for the last nine-weeks.

In December, the council took the action following an alleged incident where Officer Lee reportedly stopped a driver for DUI outside his department's jurisdiction.

Lee's lawyer has requested the city council place the matter before a review board.

The independent board is granted authority under Florida law when a law enforcement officer faces disciplinary action.
