CBS and MTV say it wasn't what they had in mind for a Super Bowl halftime show.

Both networks say they had no idea the show last night would wind up with Justin Timberlake tearing off part of Janet Jackson's costume, exposing her breast. Timberlake blamed what he called a "wardrobe malfunction."

After getting calls about the show, CBS said it "deeply regrets" the incident. MTV issued a statement saying the incident was "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional."

The halftime show was produced by MTV, which is CBS's corporate cousin under the Viacom umbrella. An NFL official says the league was "extremely disappointed" by "elements" of the halftime show.

And he adds, "It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime."

Timberlake says he didn't mean to expose Jackson's breast during their duet. CBS officials say they went to rehearsals of the halftime show, and there was no indication something like that would happen.
