Houston Co. Commission Support VA Clinic Stay in Dothan

Houston County Commissioners have shown support for the VA Clinic in Dothan, not moving.

Federal VA officials want to move the clinic from Dothan to Fort Rucker.

The decision is causing an outcry, because many veterans feel the drive will be too long and the lines too much of a hassle at the Fort Rucker security gate.

Monday, the commission voted to adopt a resolution that will go to lawmakers.

The resolution is in support of keeping the VA Clinic in Houston County.

“The fort, they have no veteran's there. The active-duty personnel will be veteran’s when they retire or leave the service. But they have no veteran's that are active duty people,” said Wendell Stepp.

The clinic is contracted to stay in Dothan until March 2008.

Currently, more than 5,900 veteran's use it.
