Smith Resignation Update

Dothan's citizen's supervisory committee has decided that there should be an investigation by the city's personnel board into Jim Smith's resignation.

Smith is a former police captain who recently resigned from the Dothan Police Department after being accused of writing anonymous letters criticizing the police chief, and sending them to city officials.

The ruling that there should be an investigation was triggered by a complaint that claimed Dothan Police Chief John White forced Smith to resign.

The complaint also alleges that Chief White falsified Captain Smith's personnel records for ulterior motives.

Smith’s wife attended the meeting, and said she knows the investigation will clear her husband's name.

The personnel board is scheduled to report back to the supervisory committee with details on their investigation, in 60 days.
