Geneva County Jail Mold

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward has received a scientific analysis of the mold growing on the walls of the Geneva County Jail.

In a five-page report, Suncrest Laboratories of Auburn have concluded poor air circulation is the culprit. Air samples indicate an extremely high level of carbon dioxide, indicating a lack of fresh air.

So, the Geneva County Commission voted to buy a new heating and cooling system.

Jail workers will scrub the mold from the walls and inmates may have to be moved out while the work takes place.

One Geneva official says the commission's action is only a band-aid measure, and the only way to ensure healthy conditions for inmates and staff is to build a new facility.
