School Consolidation Meeting

High School Consolidation Meeting

About 40 people showed up at Northview High School for a public forum on the proposed plan to consolidate the city's two high schools.

They came to hear why the school board is considering merging Northview and Dothan High Schools and to express their opinions.

School board member Earl Jones heard mostly negative comments from parents and residents over a consolidation study presented to the board nearly two weeks ago.

The study suggests the school system would save more than $722,000 each year if the schools were combined.

While a couple of individuals did say they support consolidating the two highs schools, a majority disagreed saying that uniting two separate schools would only alienate students and destroy school heritage.

Many of the parents said more information needs to come out about the proposal, and their needs to be more public discussions held about the topic.
