Daleville, AL - WTVY and Solomon Chevrolet are on a mission to make miracles happen in the Wiregrass. With a little help, News 4's Devon Sellers found someone truly deserving of this gift.
Daleville High School's guidance counselor, Margie Treadwell, helped us find Mary Pittman, a single mom who couldn't have had a miracle at a better time. We had just one hour to find Mary and deliver $500.
“Wow. Just when my babies are supposed to be going to Tuskegee to the campus,” said Mary.
Her babies, Jonathon and Joshua, are seniors at Daleville High School, and Mary has worked hard to raise them on her own while trying to recover from a major stroke.
“It's hard. It's hard. I'm sure there's some disability, but I don't know. She's always worked until this happened about a year and a half ago,” said Treadwell.
“I'm not going to give up. I'm a fighter. I save all of my energy for Friday night football,” said Mary. “I'm enjoying being around the children and watching them play and stuff. It gives me something to look forward to. I think if they would let me be on the sideline. I'd be happy.”
Her son Joshua said she deserves this.
“We haven't grown up like all the other kids with so much. For someone to take the time and give back to her like we can't, it's good.”
Mary said the $500 will help these two take the ACT and visit college campuses.
“No matter how much talent they have on the football field, baseball and track. They need their education,” said Mary. “I was just trying to figure out how I was going to get them to Tuskegee this weekend, but they said he'll open doors for you and he just made a way. I thank God for it.”
We have four more 60 Minute Miracles to make. You can see them every Friday night in November.
