Make the Sales Tax Holiday Permanent

Houston County Commissioners will vote Monday on whether to make the sales tax holiday permanent.

Last August, the state gave local and county governments the option to participate in the tax holiday.

Houston County and Dothan city signed on and residents were able to purchase back-to-school clothes and supplies without the state four percent sales tax.

The county only signed up for one year, but commissioners want to make it permanent.

Houston Co. Commission Chairman Mark Culver says, “I think it was very successful...we got a lot of positive comments about doing it. We look very closely at our revenues and it really didn't impact our revenues any.”

Commissioners will make their decision next week.
