MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Two landmarks between Troy and Montgomery are closing. The Department of Transportation announced
it will shut down two rest areas on Highway 231.

A DOT spokesman said the closures will save the state about 500-thousand dollars annually.

The agency said fewer motorists are using the two rest stops as development along the highway has increased. Its unclear what the state plans to do with the property.
