Another issue facing Dothan city schools is who will be picking up the school district’s garbage.
City leaders are considering putting a halt to garbage collection pick-up at all city schools.
Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell says the change would save taxpayers $70,000 each year.
While no decision is planned for several weeks, Sowell says he has been discussing the issue with the school superintendent.
Just weeks ago, garbage collection at apartment complexes was discontinued which required landlords to contract garbage pickup with a private company.
Curbside recycling is also being eliminated. This change goes into effect this Sunday, Feb. 1.
