WASHINGTON (AP) - There's something new to add to that collection of clangy things in your pocket starting Thursday.
The United States Mint is launching its presidential dollar coin program. And the first of the coins features the first president, George Washington.
The program is based on the successful 50-state quarter series in which coins were released every few months over a series of several years. Three other presidential dollar coins will follow Washington this year: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
Mint Director Edmund Moy says the coins can be used in a variety of vending machines and more will accept them as the year goes on.
