Dothan Police Department

State investigators have decided not to launch a probe into alleged wrongdoing at the Dothan Police Department.

The city commission had asked the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to look into allegations of abuse of power, intimidation, and racism within the department.

But, Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell received a letter from ABI Chief Ken Hallford informing the city that there are no obvious criminal violations that ABI can pursue at this time.

Chief Hallford says state funding problems make it impossible for the agency to send agents to search for possible violations.

The allegations stem from unsigned letters sent to city leaders pertaining to the conduct of police Chief John White and his subordinates.

Chief Hallford told the mayor that the allegations in the letters should be address by city administrators.
