Jackson County Teachers

Just last week, the board "rejected" an appeal by employees on last year's contract negotiations.

Thursday's tentative agreement includes a conditional raise for full-time workers and fully funded health insurance premiums.

Both issues were major stumbling blocks during last year's talks.

Superintendent Danny Sims said eligible employees will receive a step increase in January and the money will be retro-active to the beginning of the school year, unless the state declares proration or reduces funding.

The school system has also agreed to pay 100 percent of each full-time worker's health insurance premium. The agreement will be presented to members of both unions for final approval.
