Georgia Sheriff Verdict

Court

Former DeKalb County Sheriff Sidney Dorsey is back in metro Atlanta. The 63-year-old Dorsey was brought back from Albany, where a jury convicted him of murder in the death of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown.

Officials said Dorsey will not be housed in the DeKalb County Jail while he awaits sentencing on murder and corruption charges.

Brown was gunned down in the driveway of his home on Dec. 15, 2000, three days before he was to take office.

DeKalb County officials are hoping to put the whole ordeal behind them now that there is a conviction in Brown's death.
