Dothan Fire Chief Sam Crawford says he hopes city leaders will listen to his department's concerns.
While the fire chief has not received a comprehensive report concerning the toxic mold at Fire Station Two, he says a verbal call from Suncrest Laboratories in Auburn convinced him to close the station on Friday.
Crawford says he has told city leaders several times that the living quarters at the station need to be replaced.
The living quarters were once the offices of the Kingsford Coal Company decades ago.
Sources tell News 4 that fire officials were made aware of the mold problems at the Station Two years ago.
But the fire chief says it has taken time to build a case convincing the city to act on the matter.
