15 Houston County families will be better prepared if a storm hits.
100 people applied to receive a shelter, but only 15 of those names were drawn by County Commissioners to receive one, though there are alternates.
The shelters, which can hold up to 10-people, are provided through FEMA mitigation funds.
Houston Co. E.M.A. Director Clark Matthews said, “It'll certainly be important people in the Houston County area...they get their families in these storm shelters, during tornado activity...they will be safe.”
Those receiving a shelter are promised up to 3500 dollars in refunds from FEMA
