A Coffee County resident says something needs to be done about animal abuse and the skyrocketing population of stray dogs and cats.
The Coffee County Commission contracts with the city of Elba to keep its stray animals. However, an individual is responsible for getting the dog or cat to the shelter.
At Monday's commission meeting, Sherry Perdue described coming to the aid of a starving horse and that local government needs to be doing more.
“Forgive me if I’m a little emotional,” said Sherry Perdue a Coffee Co. resident. “We found this horse on May 27th of this year, a horrible situation; he could hardly stand up to get up."
Although the board didn't take action, Perdue says she'll continue to voice her concerns about Coffee County's abandoned and stray animal problem.
