DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - An eleven-hour search for a Decatur man accused of shooting his pregnant wife in the head with a shotgun ended without incident when he surrendered to authorities Thursday night.
Decatur police said 29-year-old Michael Lamont Pruitt turned himself in at the Morgan County Jail at about 8 p-m. He was charged with first-degree domestic violence and was ordered held without bond.
Police said 27-year-old Windy Pruitt was shot Thursday morning on a city street. She remains in critical condition Friday at Huntsville Hospital. The fate of her unborn child is unknown.
After 21 months of marriage, Windy Pruitt sought and was granted a protection-from-abuse order and a divorce in October 2006. In court documents, she said her husband had threatened her life.
