Authorities in one Northwest Florida County have put up a temporary facility to house female inmates, in an effort to ease overcrowding.
The building is located in the exercise yard of the Walton County Jail in Defuniak Springs.
Officials say it's a stopgap measure pending the construction of a new jail.
Their "current" facility is built to house one hundred inmates, but its population is often more than double that number.
The temporary building has the capacity to hold 50 extra female prisoners.
The Walton County commission voted to allow Sheriff Ralph Johnson to transfer $80,000 within his department to pay for the temporary jail.
