August may be a busy month for federal courts in Birmingham. A federal judge on Wednesday scheduled the fraud trial of former HealthSouth chairman Richard Scrushy for Aug. 23. He pleaded not guilty to 85 criminal counts.
Another federal judge has ruled that serial bombing suspect Eric Rudolph will go on trial in Birmingham on August second.
Both trials may be lengthy. But it's not absolutely certain that Rudolph will be tried in Birmingham for a deadly abortion clinic bombing.
His defense team has until Jan. 30 to file any motion to move the trial to another city.
