Water Rates Public Forum

If you live in Dothan and you're concerned about the city's new water rates, a public forum is being held Thursday night at the Dothan Opera House.

Last month, Dothan water customers started paying a higher rate. Basically, the total bill depends on how much water you use.

Eighty-six percent of Dothan households use 10,000 gallons or less a month. They saw a rate increase of 60 to 70 percent. People who use more than 10,000 gallons a month saw their rates go up 300 to 400 percent.

It's been suggested that the city should charge the same rate for people using between 10,000 and 50,000 gallons.

But at least one city official said customers using the most water shouldn't get a price break.

If you'd like to hear more about the Dothan water plan and new rate schedule, you're invited to the public forum at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dothan Opera House.
