Troopers: At least 11 Die in Weekend Traffic Accidents

UNDATED, Ala. (AP) - It was deadly weekend on Alabama roads.
State troopers say at least eleven people died in traffic accidents
- the death toll includes five people who were killed Sunday night in a head-on crash in Hale County.

Troopers said the two-vehicle wreck occurred near the intersections of Alabama 61 and County Road 10, about one mile south of New Bern. Authorities said the five victims were in one vehicle and all were New Bern residents. Their names were withheld until next-of-kin is notified.

Four people were killed early Sunday in three traffic accidents in southwest Alabama.

A 20-year-old Semmes man - Marc Alan Turner Junior - died when the vehicle he was driving ran off Box Road and hit a tree in Mobile County. The crash happened about 12:45 am.

23-year-old Cassandra Rivers of Mount Vernon was killed in a one-vehicle accident near the Washington County line. Investigators said a sport utility vehicle driven by Rivers overturned on Red Fox Road at about 6:15 am. The victim's husband was ejected, but troopers said he suffered minor injuries.

In Clarke County, two men were killed when the vehicle they were riding in ran off US 43 and went into a ravine. Troopers said 21-year-old Warne Junior Johnson and 20-year-old Kendrick Davis were pronounced dead at the scene. That wreck happened about 4:30 am.

Traffic fatalities also were recorded in Elmore and Jefferson counties.
