It's a complication, but not an entirely unexpected one.
One of the two young conjoined twins who were separated Tuesday morning has been taken back into the operating room.
Doctors at UCLA Medical Center said the one-year-old girl has developed a hematoma -- a collection of blood on the surface of her brain.
The center's director said the condition wasn't entirely unexpected and they think it's manageable.
The other twin remains in intensive care. Doctors said both will be considered to be in life-threatening condition until they survive the next several days. But the lead neurosurgeon said the outlook for both girls is positive.
Doctors spent 22 hours separating the girls. The risky procedure was followed by a round of cheers after the twins were pulled apart.
