In the early 1990's, vacant storefronts were a common site in downtown Marianna, but after being designated as a Florida main street community, private and state monies helped bring the town's architectural past back to life.
Main Street Director Chuck Sims, says folks are coming from surrounding states to shop here.
At this time, several individuals are planning to open stores in the revitalized downtown district.
Main Street of Florida officials plan to use Marianna as a model of what can be done when government and private enterprise work together for a common goal.
