Thirty members of the Alabama National Guard have been assigned to stand guard at airports across the state as a response to the nation's “orange” terror alert.
Gov. Bob Riley said the soldiers would reinforce security checkpoints, ground security and assist airport screeners at commercial airports in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery through the holidays.
Riley says he was not aware of a specific threat to Alabama, but that increasing security at major airports and other high-risk targets are necessary.
