Gov. Riley has called for the Auburn Trustee Selection Committee to meet in early January to re-nominate three trustee candidates.
The meeting is a response to a letter Riley received from the Southern Associations of Colleges and Schools, the accrediting agency that placed Auburn on 12 months probation.
SACS says among other issues, Auburn's trustees should not be involved in the university's daily affairs.
Riley says the committee meeting will be the first step of many to try to make sure Auburn retains its accreditation.
The SACS committee plans to re-evaluate the school next year.
Fayette Elementary School Principal Sarah Newton, Alabama Revenue Commissioner Dwight Carlisle and Gadsden City Planner Charles Ball have been nominated to fill three seats on the Board of Trustees.
