MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - An 18-year-old Auburn University freshman was headed for a rugby match in Mississippi when he was killed in a weekend wreck in Greene County.

An Alabama state trooper spokesman said Phillip Quinones was ejected from a 1997 Jeep around 11:45 pm Friday after the driver, 19-year-old Kyle Bois of Montgomery lost control on Interstate 59/20 in Eutaw.

Trooper Corporal Chris Ellis says Bois and another passenger, Caleb Reeves, of Delaware, were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Their medical conditions were unavailable.

Troopers said Quinones was not wearing a seat belt.

Quinones and his rugby teammates in the vehicle had planned to play a Saturday game at Ole Miss, according to his grandmother, Margaret Webster. She said Quinones grew up in St. Louis where he's expected to be buried. His father and stepmother live in Fairhope.

He had been a member of Pheta Chi fraternity at Auburn and hoped to become a veterinarian. He would've turned 19 on Thursday.
