A Jackson County woman is dead and her husband is charged with the murder. Authorities say the fatal shooting appears to be over the use of the family vehicle.
Leroy Taylor made his first court appearance Thursday before Jackson County Judge Woodrow Hatcher.
The 43-year-old is accused of fatally shooting his wife, 46-year-old Vanessa Taylor, in the head with a semi-automatic handgun.
The shooting took place inside the couple's North Street home in Cottondale.
Family and friends are at a loss for words over the tragedy.
“They lost their mother and now losing their father in [this] way. Either way in my opinion they are having a hard time; very sad," said Carolyn McCallister.
Judge Hatcher denied bond for Taylor who is charged with an open-count of murder.
Authorities will determine if the killing was pre-meditated, which could make it a death penalty case.
