A woman has given birth to sextuplets at University Hospital in Birmingham.
The woman from the Birmingham suburb of Center Point gave birth Sunday to two girls and four boys. The babies ranged in weight from one pound, three ounces to one pound 12 ounces.
University of Alabama at Birmingham spokeswoman Tracy Bischoff said the babies are progressing well.
The National Center for Health Statistics counts up to quadruplets in its birth data, then combines larger multiple births. There were only 77 quintuplets and higher-order births reported in the United States in 2000.
