MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A Montgomery police officer's twelve-year-old son sits in juvenile detention today charged with stealing a department-issued handgun.
Lieutenant William Perkins, a police spokesman, said the weapon - a Beretta .40 caliber handgun - was stolen sometime between Friday night and early Saturday.
Perkins said detectives are also trying to determine if the theft is connected to a robbery ring. He said the 12-year-old, a 16-year-old and other underage suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. He declined to elaborate, but said additional details could be made public sometime Monday.
The juveniles are in custody at the Montgomery County Youth Facility.
