There could soon be some major changes in store on how garbage is collected within the city of Dothan.
City leaders are considering a proposal to halt garbage services in three areas as a way to reduce costs.
If approved by the commission, the city would no longer provide garbage pick-up at apartment complexes, stop Saturday landfill hours and eliminate curbside recycling.
Instead, apartment landlords would be responsible for contracting out their garbage service with a private company.
Also, those wishing to recycle would take their trash to one of three collection centers to be set up in the city.
Interim City Manager Jerry Corin says the measures are necessary since the city currently loses money in garbage pick-up, especially recycling.
The Dothan City Commission is expected to make its decision this Tuesday.
