An accused killer pled guilty to a lesser crime Thursday in Dothan.
50-year-old Larry Elmore was originally charged with murder in the death of 18-year-old Sabrina Cook.
Her body was found in a wooded area off Dothan’s Third Avenue in November of 1998.
Defense attorneys and prosecutors argued for years over whether Elmore was competent to stand trial.
He was finally certified competent last year.
Elmore was scheduled to stand trial on the murder charge next week. However Thursday morning, he pled guilty to manslaughter instead.
Judge Larry Anderson sentenced Elmore to 20 years in prison.
Elmore has been behind bars under a $350,000 bond since his arrest more than 8 years ago.
