A citizen's review committee has concluded that elected officials in Enterprise are grossly underpaid. It’s been nearly 20-years since they've received a raise.
Committee Chairman Billy Cotter presented the group's findings to the city council.
Currently, Mayor Tim Alford earns a total of $50,000. Cotter says that's far below the amount paid to mayors in comparable sized Alabama towns that don't have a city manager form of government like Enterprise.
The committee recommends the mayor receive an annual $75,000 and the council member’s should get $10,000 a year.
If approved by the council, the pay raise would go into effect when the new mayoral term begins in August 2004.
