The Houston County Commission gave the go ahead to expand the Houston County community corrections building to house more female inmates.
The corrections program currently uses the first two floors and half of the third.
The program wants to expand into the south end of the third floor.
The program is looking to expand due to the overcrowding at the states Julia Tutwiler Prison for women.
It may take a while though before the female inmates move in.
Community corrections inmates are allowed to work jobs and then return to the facility when they aren't working.
The program keeps 30-percent of the inmates’ salary.
