Dale County residents have their first and last supernumery sheriff.
The retiring sheriff, Bryant Mixon, swore in the sheriff-elect Wally Olson Friday at the Dale County Courthouse.
After receiving a standing ovation, Olson then swore in Mixon as the supernumery sheriff.
Mixon will not be a part of the office, receive any station money or serve as a law enforcement officer. It's strictly an honor position.
Meanwhile, Olson says he's excited to become the new sheriff for Dale County. “I’m honored,” he said. “It's truly an honor to have reached a goal I’ve had all my life. It will take a lot of work. I'm filling big shoes and I’ll give it all I got,” said Olson.
Olson will officially become sheriff Monday, January 15th.
