Prosecutors Given Deadline to Respond to Request for New Trial

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Prosecutors in former Governor Don
Siegelman and fired HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy's case face a
new deadline.

A Montgomery federal judge Thursday required prosecutors to show cause as to why Seigelman and Scrushy should bedenied their request for a new trial.

The two men, who were convicted on bribery and conspiracy charges last June, asked the judge to consider a new trial over what they say is newly discovered evidence.

Prosecutors have until January 19th to respond.
