Is one area hospital in danger of shutting its doors forever?
That question was posed by a group of residents at the Geneva County commission meeting.
Retired nurse Pearl Sikes presented 20 written questions to commissioners.
Sikes said she believes Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva is in poor financial shape. She said current employees are afraid to ask questions and fear they could be fired by management. She also doesn't understand why the hospital board of trustees meetings are closed to the public.
Wiregrass Hospital's CEO John Robertson said the health care facility is in fine financial shape. He also said it's a lot better than when his management team first took over in January 1999.
Robertson said Wiregrass Hospital and Nursing Home employs about 300 area residents and it's in no danger of closing down.
