An area volunteer fire department is getting some much needed funding from the government.
Senator Richard Shelby announced Thursday that the Ashford Volunteer Fire Department will receive more than $84,000 to assist them with the purchase of firefighting equipment and to fund firefighter health and safety programs.
It will also help them enhance emergency medical services programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs.
